Tens of thousands assembled in various Australian cities at pro-Palestinian protests, with coordinators vowing to keep demonstrating after a ceasefire deal facilitated by the American leader in Gaza showed early signs of stability.

Sydney Protest Attracts Many Participants

In Australia's largest city, the pro-Palestine organization claimed thirty thousand participants had protested from the public gardens to another city park in the downtown area after a planned rally to the iconic venue was banned by the New South Wales court of appeal recently.

Local authorities estimated eight thousand participants participated in the city demonstration, with a spokesperson saying there had been "minimal disturbances".

Demonstrations were also held in southern city, Queensland's capital and Western Australian city on the weekend to remember 24 months of conflict after armed incidents on 7 October 2023 killed about 1,200 people in Israel.

"Concerning the protest efforts, we'll certainly maintain to advocate for liberation... for local governance, for support to reach and for residents to restore their communities," stated a coordinator.

Differing Opinions to Peace Deal

Various participants voiced optimism that the ceasefire would lead to lasting peace. Others were sceptical of Trump's involvement and called on activists to maintain pressure on the federal leadership to impose restrictions and stop arms transactions.

A participant, a local with Palestinian heritage residing in the city, expressed he hoped the deal might enable him to bring his elderly mother, who is remaining in the territory without access to medical care, to his current home, and to find and bury his brother, sister-in-law and their four children, who have been lost contact in 2023.

Local Jewish Population Conducts Service

Separately, numerous people attended a community remembrance on the evening in Sydney's eastern suburbs to remember the occasion of 7 October. A participant, the relative of a victim, an Australian citizen who was deceased in the incident, was planned to address.

There were prayers for the imminent repatriation of the captives still held in the territory and those who lost their lives. The Israeli ambassador, Amir Maimon, paid tribute to the resolve of survivors. The participants reacted negatively when he mentioned the Australian prime minister and the international relations official.

Boat Activists Relate Stories

The local protest earlier featured addresses including multiple nationals freed from custody after the interception of the Sumud flotilla this month.

Surya McEwen, his damaged arm after it was said to be harmed in an Israeli prison, informed that not enough was known about the ceasefire deal. International aid organisations, including relief organizations, were preparing to enter Gaza.

"As long as there is a situation where there's a harsh and unlawful restriction on the region," said the activist, maritime demonstrators would continue to try to bring support through maritime routes.

Another participant, who returned to Sydney on recently, gave an moving testimony recounting his imprisonment with numerous other individuals in an incarceration center.

Leadership Remarks

The NSW Greens MP the legislator told the crowd: "It's unacceptable to permit a reality where the former president decides the outcome for Palestinian communities to be the kind of world that we live in."

One activist who submitted the original application to march on the Opera House claimed that the participants could have peacefully gone to the iconic waterfront location. The NSW police assistant commissioner had previously told the legal authority that the proposal seemed problematic.

The coordinator said on Sunday: "On each occasion the police attempt to oppose our demonstrations or court proceedings, it increases community attention... to the need to mobilise and oppose such actions."
