Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Winning Display at Athlos in New York
Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.
The Olympic champion finished her 800m campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic champion, who earned third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a muscle issue.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I've barely raced this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," stated Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive event packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the winners with their tiaras.
Previous champions received $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
