Christantus Uche Sparks Comfortable Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Missing key players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable win that virtually secures them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
Another victory in their upcoming match against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal straight passage to the knockout stages, particularly after a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Opportunity
This match offered a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used talent to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a well-taken finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, finding the net for the second consecutive succession.
A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season proved no match against a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee injuries.
Control Established from the Start
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton came close soon after, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official waved away the appeals.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's shot had struck the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for two agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still room for development in his game.
A solitary concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the traveling side.
